How Moonity donated 54,000 ONE in 7 days on behalf of Harmony blockchain community
Moonity ($MOONI) is a first of its kind charity token on the Harmony blockchain ($ONE), featuring autostaking and deflationary supply. Unlike other tokens on the Harmony blockchain it also provides utility for a greater good, which benefits both the Harmony ecosystem, as well as gives the holders some clear conscience.
This particular utility is raising funds to be donated to different charities, which are voted upon by the community.
Moonity launched on May 21, 2021 and made its first donation on May 28. Within this short period of time, 7 days, Moonity was able to raise approximately 54,000 ONE (2 ETH) worth of funds.
Tokenomics As The Charity Enabler
The funds are accumulated into a public charity wallet by the tokenomics of the token contract. In particular, each and every transaction of Moonity token is taxed 12%, from which — 3% is allocated to charity wallet, 3% is distributed to existing holders as reflective rewards and 6% goes back into the liquidity pool to enable a stable liquidity. At launch 50% of Moonity’s total supply was burned to a “dead” wallet, as this burn wallet is also considered a holder, this wallet receives reflective awards, burning Moonity with every transaction. In time the amount of tokens in the burn wallet will
increase, thus increasing the percentage burned with every transaction.
Voting Upon The Charities
Each and every charity the donation funds are given to, is voted upon by the community members. The charities are preselected by the community and suggestions by the community are taken into account. Some more active members of the community perform a thorough research into the charities. In addition, the charities must be registered NGOs and they must be able to accept cryptocurrency.
Therefore, 12 different charities were proposed to be voted upon for the donation of May 2021. In total 159 community members casted their vote — with Orangutan Outreach receiving 31.45% of the votes and International Medical Corps receiving 25.16% of the votes. The community decided that the top two charities should both receive an equal amount of donation funds.

What Does the Future Hold For Moonity?
Moonity’s community has not stopped thriving for the excellence after the first donations. In fact, the community is aiming to raise even more funds for donations than was raised within the first week since launch.
The current voting poll for June 2021 charities is already up and and so far 80 community members have made their decision — currently the TOP 2 charities of choice are: Mental Health America ( 25%) and Rainforest Foundation US ( 17.5%).
